Topaz
Topaz is an aluminium fluorosilicate, hard and glassy, occurring colourless, blue, pink and in the prized golden-orange Imperial grade. Ouro Preto in Minas Gerais, Brazil is the classic source of Imperial topaz; Sri Lanka, the Urals, Nigeria and Pakistan supply blue and white material, most commercial blue topaz being colourless stone that has been irradiated. Yellow and Imperial topaz is the widely accepted substitute for yellow sapphire, offered at Alangudi and suited to Dhanusu and Meenam natives; blue topaz is generally worn for Saturn or Venus. It carries the same intentions as Pushparagam — prosperity, wisdom, teaching and progress in marriage discussions — at a fraction of the cost, which makes it a useful recommendation when a large carat weight is prescribed
