Diamond (Vairam)
Diamond is pure crystallised carbon and the hardest natural substance known, rating 10 on the Mohs scale — the reason it alone takes and holds the mirror polish that produces its fire. India was the world’s only source until the eighteenth century: the Golconda mines along the Krishna river yielded the Koh-i-Noor and the Hope. Today Botswana, Russia, Canada and South Africa dominate supply. As the gem of Sukra, it is offered at Agneeswarar Temple, Kanjanur. Rishabam and Thulam natives, ruled by Venus, are the primary wearers, and it suits Mithunam, Kanni, Magaram and Kumbam. It is worn for marital harmony, beauty, artistic and creative work, luxury, vehicles and comfort in domestic life.
