Onyx

Onyx is chalcedony banded in straight parallel layers, most familiar in solid black or in black with crisp white lines; the Greeks and Romans carved it into cameos precisely because the layers could be cut back to reveal a contrasting ground. Brazil, Uruguay, India and Madagascar are the working sources, and much commercial black onyx is grey chalcedony that has been traditionally dyed — a long-accepted practice worth disclosing plainly at the counter. Assigned to Saturn, and in some readings to Rahu, it is offered at Thirunallar and suits Magaram and Kumbam natives. It is worn for discipline, focus, emotional boundaries and steadiness through grief or upheaval, and it sells particularly well in men’s rings and bracelets.
