Hessonite (Gomedhagam)
Hessonite is the honey-to-cinnamon variety of grossular garnet, prized for a warm brown-orange glow and a characteristic swirled, treacle-like internal texture that jewellers call the roiled effect. Sri Lanka produces the finest and cleanest material; India contributes from Odisha and Tamil Nadu, with additional sources in Brazil and Madagascar. As the gem of Rahu, it is offered at the Naganathaswamy Temple at Thirunageswaram, where milk poured over the Rahu idol during Rahu Kalam is famously seen to turn blue. It is prescribed during Rahu dasa or bhukti and for Kala Sarpa dosham, and for those troubled by confusion, litigation, sudden reversals or delays in foreign travel and visas. It suits Magaram, Kumbam, Rishabam, Mithunam, Kanni and Thulam
