Mars (Chevvai)

Chevvai governs courage, physical energy, land and property, siblings, surgery and blood, and competitive drive. It is best known in Tamil households for Chevvai dosham — Mars in the first, second, fourth, seventh, eighth or twelfth house — which is checked in every marriage horoscope match and is the single most common reason a family consults an astrologer before a wedding. The temple is Vaitheeswaran Koil near Sirkazhi, where Siva is worshipped as Vaidyanathaswamy, the divine physician, and the Siddhamirtham tank is held to cure disease; the town is also the historic centre of Naadi astrology. Chevvai rules Mesham and Viruchigam, is exalted in Magaram and debilitated in Kadagam.
